Commercial Toilet Paper
Buying toilet paper for a workplace is a different exercise from buying it for a house. You're buying by the carton, the roll has to fit the dispenser already on the wall, and the number that actually matters is cost per sheet — not cost per roll. NXP stocks 52 lines from Livi, Tork, Pacific and Kleenex, across conventional, jumbo, mini jumbo and interleaved formats.
Start with the dispenser, not the paper
This is the step people skip, and it's the reason cartons get returned. The roll has to fit the dispenser you already have on the wall. Check the dispenser before you order — most commercial dispensers are marked with a system code.
Tork's system codes appear directly in the product names in this range:
- T1 — jumbo roll (large, high-capacity)
- T2 — mini jumbo roll
- T4 — conventional roll (standard household-size roll)
- T9 — SmartOne, single-sheet centrefeed
If you don't know what you have, measure the roll currently in it: core diameter and roll width will tell you whether you're on conventional, mini jumbo or jumbo. If you're specifying from scratch, browse the matching dispensers alongside the paper.
The four formats, and where each belongs
Conventional rolls are standard-size rolls, sold at 200 to 400 sheets. They suit offices, small sites and any washroom with ordinary household-style dispensers or open holders. The 400-sheet 2-ply lines in cartons of 48 are the workhorse of most NZ offices.
Jumbo rolls (300m and 600m per roll) hold vastly more paper in a single roll, so they need refilling far less often. They're the standard for high-traffic public washrooms — schools, malls, stadiums, hospitality, and any site where a cleaner shouldn't have to return twice a day. They need a jumbo dispenser.
Mini jumbo (200m) is the compromise: much longer than a conventional roll but in a smaller dispenser that fits a normal-sized cubicle. Good for medium-traffic offices and cafés.
Interleaved tissue is flat, folded, individual sheets dispensed one at a time. Two reasons to choose it: it controls consumption (people take one sheet, not a handful), and it's genuinely more hygienic in shared washrooms because nobody has to touch the rest of the stack. Common in schools, factories and food-handling environments. SmartOne and centrefeed systems work on a similar single-sheet principle but from a roll, and are designed to cut usage significantly in busy public washrooms.
Ply and sheet count
1-ply is the most economical per sheet and appears in high-volume jumbo formats. It's a consumption decision — people tend to use more sheets, so the saving is smaller than it looks.
2-ply is the standard specification for almost every workplace. It's the right default.
3-ply — the Livi Impressa luxury embossed lines here — is for client-facing washrooms, executive floors, boutique hospitality and accommodation, where the washroom is part of the impression.
When you compare prices, compare cost per sheet or per metre, not per roll or per carton. A carton of 48 x 400-sheet rolls holds 19,200 sheets; a carton of 8 jumbo rolls at 300m each is a completely different quantity of paper. Cartons here range from 6 to 48 rolls, so the headline carton price tells you very little on its own.
How much to order
A rough working figure for planning: budget around one conventional 400-sheet roll per person per week in a standard office washroom, then adjust for public access, which changes the numbers entirely. Sites with public foot traffic should be on jumbo or SmartOne systems rather than trying to keep up with conventional rolls.
Order at least a month of stock at a time. Running out is disproportionately disruptive for something this cheap, and cartons don't spoil.
Ordering and delivery
Toilet paper is bulky, low-value freight — which is exactly why it should ride along with the rest of your cleaning and washroom order rather than being bought separately. NXP has no minimum order quantity, orders placed by 3pm dispatch the same day from the nearest branch, and freight is free on orders over $50. Add hand towel, soap and bin liners to the same order and the whole washroom is handled in one go.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know which toilet paper fits my dispenser?
Check the dispenser for a system code — Tork dispensers are marked T1 (jumbo), T2 (mini jumbo), T4 (conventional) or T9 (SmartOne), and those codes appear in the product names. If there's no marking, measure the width and core diameter of the roll currently in it and match those dimensions.
What's the difference between jumbo and mini jumbo toilet rolls?
Length and dispenser size. Jumbo rolls run 300m to 600m and need a large dispenser — they're for high-traffic public washrooms. Mini jumbo is around 200m in a smaller dispenser that fits a standard cubicle, suiting medium-traffic offices and cafés.
Is interleaved toilet tissue better than rolls?
For shared and high-traffic washrooms, often yes. Single sheets dispense one at a time, which reduces consumption and means users don't handle the rest of the stack. Rolls are simpler and cheaper per sheet where usage is moderate and the washroom isn't public.
How do I compare toilet paper prices properly?
Work out cost per sheet, or cost per metre for jumbo rolls. Carton and roll prices aren't comparable — a carton of 48 x 400-sheet rolls contains 19,200 sheets, while a carton of 8 x 300m jumbo rolls is a different quantity again. Sheet count and roll length are on every product listing here.
How much toilet paper does an office get through?
As a planning figure, around one 400-sheet conventional roll per person per week in a standard office washroom. Sites with public access use substantially more and are usually better served by jumbo or single-sheet systems than by conventional rolls.
