Sticky notes are the one item on this list that nobody ever orders just one of. Which size for which job

Sizes are the fastest way to narrow this down:

• 35 x 48mm / 38 x 50mm — the small pads. Flagging a page, a short reminder, a phone number. Sold in packs of 12, which is how they should be bought.
• 76 x 76mm — the standard square, and the one most offices default to. Fits a sentence or two.
• 76 x 127mm — the tall rectangle. Room for a short list or a message left on a colleague's desk.
• 101 x 152mm — the large pad, usually lined. This is the one for handover notes, meeting scribbles and anything someone else has to read.

Most of the range is unlined; the lined pads are worth stocking wherever people write full messages rather than reminders. If you're buying for a floor, make the 76 x 76mm your default and add one small size for flagging.

Post-it Original vs Super Sticky

Post-it Original uses the standard repositionable adhesive. It's designed for paper, files and desks, and it lifts cleanly.

Post-it Super Sticky has roughly twice the adhesive strength. It's what you need on vertical and awkward surfaces — monitors, whiteboards, painted walls, glass partitions, laminated folders — and in warmer or more humid rooms, where standard notes start curling off by mid-afternoon. For workshop walls, kanban boards and anything that has to stay put for weeks, specify Super Sticky and don't bother testing the alternative.

Flags, page markers and tabs

These are a different tool, not a smaller sticky note.

Adhesive flags (25 x 43mm) are narrow and part-coated, so the sticky end anchors in the document and the coloured end protrudes past the page edge. They're for marking a specific line or clause. The pre-printed "Sign Here" flags are worth knowing about if you send out contracts or agreements — they cut a lot of explanatory emails.

Page markers and tabs (12 x 44mm and 15 x 50mm) are smaller and come in assorted colours for indexing, colour-coding files or tabbing a training manual. For permanent indexing, printed filing labels are the better tool.

Recycled and lower-cost options

Post-it's Greener / Recycled range uses recycled paper with the same adhesive performance, which is the straightforward answer if you have a procurement policy that asks for recycled content.

If you're buying purely on price — for a school, a training room, a conference bag, or anywhere notes are consumed in volume and thrown away the same day — the NXP own-brand and Okin sticky notes do the same job for less. Where they differ from Post-it is adhesive longevity: fine for a day, less reliable if the note has to hold for a month. Buy branded where it matters and generic where it doesn't.

Buying in bulk

Packs of 12 and cabinet packs of 24 are the sensible unit for any office with more than a few people — sticky notes disappear, and running out mid-week means someone buys a single pad at retail price. The memo cube (400 sheets in bright colours) is the right format for a reception or shared counter, where a stack of loose pads gets scattered.

Pop-up notes dispense one-handed from a holder, which sounds trivial until you watch someone on a phone headset trying to peel a note off a pad. Worth it for reception, service desks and anyone taking notes while talking.
